day care in West Des Moines
Our Children Care Centers offer a comprehensive program for children age six weeks to twelve years of age. Listed below are some of the highlights of our program. We encourage you to contact us by phone, for more information or if you have a question.
Staff:
Our staffs at the day cares in West Des Moines, as well as all other surrounding locations are mature, caring, and experienced in a variety of teaching styles. Each of our preschool teachers has education and/or experience in working with children. Additionally, staff members receive ongoing training in the following areas: First Aid, Adult, Child, and Infant CPR, child abuse, safety, child development, problem solving, preschool activities, and infant and toddler activities. Each spring our staff attends an all day conference on childcare.
Preschool:
Every morning, three, four, and five year olds attend preschool classes at our Children’s Care Centers. A period is designated each day for calendar, weather, crafts, lessons, stories, music, stations, and free play. Additional activities include creative arts, dramatic play, and science and language skills. The preschool activities are based on a theme related curriculum. Themes include senses, colors and shapes, Dr. Seuss, animals, farms, presidents, nursery rhymes, safety, Halloween, etc.
Discipline:
The staff uses positive reinforcement to encourage appropriate behavior. By providing several choices of activities, many conflicts are avoided. If a conflict arises, redirection and time outs are used for inappropriate behavior.
Field Trips:
Preschool children attending our Centers go on a variety of field trips. Many field trips incorporate the preschool themes and are available at all day care locations around Des Moines. For example, the children go to Living History Farms during farm week and to Blank Park Zoo during animal week. Before each field trip, parents are required to sign a permission slip and pay the required fees. Traditions Children Center vehicles are used to transport the children.
Swimming Pools:
All children three years and older have the opportunity of water play during the summer. A swimsuit and t-shirt are needed for water activity.
Outside Play:
Outside play is an important part of each child’s experience at all Des Moines Area locations. During favorable weather, children play outside one to three times a day. In addition, walks and trips to the park are taken on a regular basis. Unless it is very hot outside, a jacket should be provided each day.
School Transportation:
Bus and van transportation is provided to most surrounding schools for kindergarten and grade school children. Children are required to wear seatbelts at all times. Bus drivers are required to have the appropriate licenses to drive the vehicles.
Safety Policy:
Parents are required to follow the Center’s safety policy. Upon arrival, parents must sign their child in. When leaving, parents must sign their child out.
